Hunter Ultrasound modular emergency RUSH course

Within the framework of the clinically useful RUSH protocol (Rapid Ultrasound in Shock and Hypotension), we plan to teach the fundamentals of ‘Level 1’ point of care ultrasound use and provide a pathway for participants of this course to achieve a nationalized standard of ultrasound proficiency and local hospital credentialing in a time and financially efficient manner that is sustainable to all involved
— HUMMER course mission

  • the course consists of 2 separate day long workshops. A BASIC workshop covering the basics in ultrasound theory, procedures, vascular access and e-FAST/AAA scans and an ADVANCED workshop covering an introduction to Thoracic ultrasound and focused ECHO in life support (FELS). Together, the HUMMER course is aimed at giving critical care practitioners' a well rounded understanding and ability to assess both medically and traumatically critically unwell patients in their care.

  • The BASIC workshop is a pre-requiste for attendence in the ADVANCED workshop and is accredited by the ACEM ultrasound sub-committee allowing participants to work towards certification in a formal accreditation program in e-FAST, AAA, and vascular access

  • Courses will be run bi-monthly alternating between Maitland and John Hunter Hospitals, please check the calender adjacement for the most up-to-date times and location.  In order to maximize participant involvement and hand's on practice, the course will be limited to 10 participants per course.

  • As part of the accreditation process of the course, each participant will be required to do pre-workshop online modules before attending each workshop.  These modules have been developed by ACEM and made available to both trainee’s and non-training clinicians of ACEM (see link below). Each participant will be required to complete all 4 modules. certificates of completion will need to be presented to HUMMER administrative staff prior to attendence.

  • Post completion of each course, the participant will be given access to an online logbook accesible by mobile devices and a roster of 'office hours' of the HUMMER course faculty to facilitate ongoing supervision, review and completion of required logbooks.
